Highly detailed chronicle of the Ventures and their music.

Ventures' fans will enjoy this highly detailed chronological history of the Ventures which spans the 50 years of their musical existence. It is very informative as it documents their ups and downs in the musical industry, reveals changes in the group composition over the years, provides information on as to who played on the various recordings as well as how the Ventures fought the record industry to maintain their artistic integrity. The book also gives good insight as to how the music industry functions (or can be dysfunctional). The author has used the band members and many resources close to the band to provide intimate details and interesting personal stories which really add flavor to the book. Highly recommended. Would be a five star* rating except for many grammatical and typographical errors and could have also have included a more comprehensive discography of their recordings.

EVERYTHING(!) You've Ever Want To Know About The Ventures

This is an encyclopaedic undertaking! You don't have to be a The Ventures fan to enjoy this crammed-full-of-facts book but it will help as their lives are laid bare by author Del Halterman. I bought the book through Amazon and it's one of my preferred purchases.

Things could have turned out entirely different if the various personalities associated with the lives of The Ventures had not been as weak as they are portrayed. Particularly Semie Moseley, the man responsible for Mosrite guitars which were popularized by The Ventures. If you appreciate musical instruments then you might agree that the Mosrite guitars, especially those that feature "The Ventures model" on the headstock, just have to be the most beautiful guitars ever created. And yet, the genius behind them turns out to be a poor businessman dogged by bad decisions. The author provides so much information that names are going to appear and disappear in every page and it might become difficult for you to remember them all and their connection to the American Fab Four. The worst news is finding out that when you listen to a Ventures recording, you can't be sure if you're listening to Nokie, Bob, Don, and Mel, or they're off on a tour and a pick-up band of top session musicians recorded the tunes. The Ventures musical output is tremendous but I found that like with The Beatles there are some numbers that are not worth the the effort. When you listen to a Ventures tune, you may not be listening to just the Ventures as they employed other musicians for additional instrumentation. So it's really The Ventures Plus.

I had the fortune to see The Ventures live and meet them afterwards and spent time talking to the drummer Mel Taylor while waiting on a line in a department store. I also worked in a building next to where they had their offices and I brought them misdelivered mail once again meeting one or two Ventures.

I owned 2 Mosrite basses, one a 1960s The Ventures model. Now I own a Mosrite bass. I loved the guys, their music and I was a fan right from the beginning and I still am one. I'm halfway through the book and I look forward to picking it up again and visiting with The Ventures and take a peek at what their lives were like. A great adventure.

CAVEAT: It's been pointed out that there are many typos but they create only temporary distractions.

As a Venture fan since 1964 I found this book a godsend, so much so that I gave copies to friends with like interests who likewise enjoyed it. The book could have used more editing for grammar and sentence structure in places but that is easily overlooked in thankfulness to finally know most of the story, blow by blow. It is a Venture journey, with less private information about the members than expected, but it is thorough in its Band presentation. The Ventures are simply amazing and as one who has owned many of their recordings in differing formats I am so happy to see their story come out and for them get the recognition they so absolutely deserve.

Basic but very helpful toilet training book

Here's a topic every parent must know. This book is pretty basic, but has everything you need to know to quickly and painlessly potty train your child. I had to potty train our first child and now that the 2nd is nearly there I thought it would be good for a refresher course.

Each child learns at their own pace, and potty training is no different. The number one thing to keep in mind is persistence, and of course a ton of patience. Accidents will happen and as the book points out, you don't want to punish your child for that. It's better to say something like "you'll do better next time", and keep it light hearted. Yeah, sometimes easier said than done (been there done that!:)

One chapter discusses training in 2 days- really? I'm not too sure about that and will have to give it a try. We did something like that for our first, but didn't use a timer. But again, being consistent and persistent will pay off. I've also observed that kids who are around other kids, like in a daycare, tend to pick it up faster.

Overall a nicely done book that can help any new parent toilet train their little one.

Simple to follow toilet training program

This is a very simple easy to read book that lays out specifically how you can toilet train your child.

The book offers a number of training options that allow you to customise a toilet training approach specifically for your child. Apparently this is a big deal because every child is different obviously so it makes sense that a one size fits all approach to toilet training won't work for every child. The book provides three training methods that are explained step by step as well additional tips and tricks that will allow you to develop a hassle free training process. There is also a useful section on what to do if your child resists the toilet training process which has been known to happen from time to time.

The book also explains how important it is for us as parents to approach toilet training with the right attitude. While we all get toilet trained eventually, this book provided a very concise plan for making it as easy a process as possible for your soon to be toilet trained child and you the parent.

Lastly the book concludes with a good list of resources and toilet training equipment that you might find useful when you train your toddler.

From my experience things like toilet training can be as simple or as complicated as you make them. The right attitude from us parents and the most appropriate method for our youngster will ensure a happy and ultimately successful toilet training experience. I feel that this book will really help you if you are on the verge of taking this step with your toddler.

Toilet training is a learning experience and not a disciplinary process. Every child is unique and parents should not force their children to learn if they are not yet ready. Mistakes are bound to happen. If it happens, parents should not get easily frustrated. Patience is the key to a successful potty training.

Parents would know that potty training a young child can be a very tricky and tiresome experience. Nanny P's Blueprint for Toilet Training is an excellent guidebook to make potty training a fun and memorable experience for both the parents and the child even when he or she has an accident.

I especially love the part that talks about dad's involvement in training. I have two adorable children. My little girl learned how to use the bathroom before she turned four. My son is not yet potty trained and I am not worried. I think that my daughter learns faster because she sees me do it. I showed the book to my husband and he is very optimistic to help our son.

I recommend this book for parents who are clueless on how and when to potty train their little ones.

Clear & Precise !

This book is a breath of fresh air. It’s very reader-friendly, clear to understand and what I love most it cuts to the chase without the wordiness. Each page provides graphics stills as examples to help the reader comprehend the given topic. One useful feature about this book is located at the end of each chapter in where you’ll be able to find a chapter summery along questions you should ask yourself, and group questions in order to “test yourself” in what you have learned. As a fashion merchandiser, and a future Buyer this will be one of my "Go-to" books at all times. I would highly recommend this book to anyone entering the fashion world or who ever is currently in it because, the book covers a variety of subjects that are useful for everyone in this industry and, is relevant to today's society.

I am a Fashion Marketing and Merchandising Major and would definitely recommend investing in this book to any of my peers. This book is very knowledgeable and the information given is easy to digest especially for readers that are unaware of how the fashion industry operates. After reading you will feel totally enlightened. It is by far the best fashion buying book I have ever read thus far. I will also use this book as a guideline for my career!

This book is Amaze-balls!!!

If I could give it more than 5 stars...I would. The first time I took the Math section I failed. Having not had a single math course since about 2003 I was super rusty. I purchased this book in hopes of 'refreshing' my memory. Some of the lessons I didn't remember learning at all but the book was so thorough in explaining the problem and steps to solving it. I went in to still nervous because I hate taking test but I was more confident than my first attempt. Needless to say, I passed!!!! I should have my score on March 6th and if I remember to do so I'll update with my score difference.

Update: my score went up 38 points!!

What an amazing tool, it helped me tremendously

What an amazing tool, it helped me tremendously! Great examples, practice problems, and practice test. I worked through the entire book and do not know how I would have passed the math portion of the exam without it. If you struggle with math or just need a refresher on the concepts this book is a must have!

Worth the Money, A lot More Helpful than Most Books.

So I took the TAP exam and passed every subject minus the math. I have checked out study guides from the library and even purchased the online study and practice tests from Longsdale Publishing. Most books are the same. They teach you the concepts and then give you a practice test in the back along with the right answers on another page. The problem with that is, whenever I get an answer wrong, I have no idea why. And have no one to go to for help. This author however breaks each and every problem down along with the right answer. I feel like I can move along in my studying without always feeling "stuck". I test in a month and am so glad I purchased this study guide.

Exceptional sequel that is a truly inspired piece of work that shouldn’t be missed!

This is the follow up to Vampire, and Cawdron doesn’t disappoint. It picks up were Vampire left off, with Alan seeking to find out what happened with his wife Jane, after her strange encounter at the end of the first book.
I won’t discuss the story further as I don’t want to give too much away.
However, this is an amazing story, delving into the rich history of Dracula, van Helsing and the Nosferatu. Cawdron has done his homework, making sure that he has interesting details to include in his story to keep us intrigued with a combination of fact and fiction.
As always, Cawdron’s characters are exceptional, as they add an extra dimension to the story. This was already an incredible piece of work with an plot, but the characters just give it so much more. Alans character is tormented and troubled, Jane is not herself now being sensual, and animalistic, and there are a bunch of other add-ons that just give so much depth to the story.
We Are Legion is another truly inspired piece of work that grips you from the start and leaves you wondering what is going on. As you get pulled deeper into it, you think you are starting to understand what is going on, but later you will realise you had so little idea...this is a tale of twist and turn and bang – you are at the end, left breathless, suddenly realising what has unfolded in front of you. It takes a couple of seconds for it all to sink into place, all the intricate little bits to fall into place. You have to make sure you have actually caught all the plotlines and tied them all together and when you do, you only then realise how clever and brilliant Cawdron actually is.
This is well worth the read, if you haven’t read Vampire, read that first and then this, you won’t be disappointed!

Highly recommended sequel!

We Are Legion picks up the storyline from Vampire, and centers around some of the same characters, but with a new protagonist, Jane Langford's husband, Alan, who is, for the most part, the narrator.

WAL builds up tension from the start, and again the story is both suspenseful and foreboding. While there is no surprise as to Jane's whereabouts, as she is heading for Transylvania, there's a brilliant superiority to this storyline, as it's both light and sinister, terrifying and clever, plausible and imaginative, everything really, to make this a highly engrossing sequel.

I liked Alan a lot more in this part of the story, and Joe is an amazing friend, and rather witty at times too. The journey through Eastern Europe was great, in fact, the descriptions of the scenery kinda made me want to travel through the eastern parts of Europe someday. Again, the connection between this version and Stoker's is flawless. Using Dracula as factual information works well in regards to making both stories real, and thus giving merit to the superstition as something believable and eerily nonfictional.

Drawing on religion and superstition, as well as scientific plausibility this novella is an awesome read, and the ending is perfect.

We might just not be alone...

Just as returning to a much loved place from one's past can rekindle anew the pleasures of that time, so, too, does Peter Cawdron's vampire story revive those first icy stirrings encountered in the original, Dracula. And by echoing passages from Stoker's book, this pleasure is intensified as memory bounces between the two stories. But this time it is not the past but present day, which makes it ever closer, all the more real.
Beautifully written, this is the second of two stories and follows directly from Mr. Cawdron's excellent book, Vampire. As such, it is advisable, though not essential, to read, We Are Legion, after having been thrilled by the first. Similarly, a knowledge of the old but still very powerful, Dracula, will enhance the enjoyment of this book. If you haven't read it yet, get it, read it - you might just be surprised. But be warned, not every vampire looks as if it has just stepped out of a horror movie...

Really fun, beautifully written, and hilarious!

This book by Patrick E. McLean was awesome. I listened to the audiobook narrated by the author. He is a fantastic narrator. His delivery of all the characters' lines were so good. He got the voice for the protagonist perfectly. The wizard and an interesting Orc character - I distinctly remember them all and they were unique and interesting voices that really brought the story alive and made the fantastic dialog shine. Now onto the story.

I really enjoyed the story. I was never bored, which sadly I can't say about many novels. First off, I love adventure stories. This was an adventure story that was very different. You can tell by the title. What? A merchant going on an adventure? Yes. But he's what you might expect from Patrick, a character who uses his brains and wit to get what he wants. He's not swinging a sword. He's not out for glory. He never set out to be a hero.

As much as I love fantasy for all its tropes, it was refreshing to read a story with a very different kind of protagonist. The wizard was a great character too. A bit of what we expect except when it comes to his personality. He was a fun antagonist.

Another great thing about this story is that I was never able to guess what was going to happen next. In a way that Boltak the main character might say it: "This ain't your ordinary fantasy adventure kid." Something else I liked was the prose. Usually it was snappy witty dialogue that had me laughing a lot. Sometimes, however, there were remarkable phrases elegantly describing things of beauty. More quiet moments where you weren't waiting for the next laugh but carefully reading or listening to each word. When you get to chapter 37 you'll see what I mean. Great writing. So I gave this novel a 5 star rating because it was a blast to read, had fantastic writing, and I'm really glad I gave it a go.

Snarky Fantasy? I. Love. It.

I don't know where to start. I have loved almost everything that has come from Patrick McLean. I saw this appear in a random search and thought 'this can't possibly be what I think it is!'
The stage for this book is set in a Medieval town where heros are more muscle than gray matter, and every cliche that you can think of is heaped upon them to hilarious effect. The knight is even wearing Shining (trademarked) Armor. I kid you not.
I laughed continuously for the first 50% of the book or so. The third quarter gets a little weighed down by philosophical questions about 'who is a hero' and 'what makes you happy' but recovers in fine form. The plot goes place you wouldn't quite think either. I don't want to spoil anything, but when the story takes turns they are out of left field.
The characters are what really makes this book though. You have your main character (who I can't even call a Hero) Boltac. He is a merchant who could be a combination of any number of stereotypes for shrewd merchants. You never, at any point dislike him though. As the story goes on though, it gets harder not to root for him. I have to mention Relan when talking about characters. Fantastic doesn't begin. He is a perfect foil for Boltac. Logic vs. idealism, logic vs. heroism, logic vs. idiotic bravery (you get the idea).
Pick this up. It is so well worth it.

Great characters and take on the fantasy genre

I really enjoyed this satirical look at the Fantasy genre. It's the Galaxy Quest of fantasy novels. With really endearing characters that are self-aware and engaging. I would very much look forward to more adventures of the merchant adventurer.
