The digital version is not "Kindle friendly." Important charts, tables etc are displayed in a font, like the original, but too small to read on the Kindle with no ability to zoom in. The content is helpful of course but, I recommend buying a more up-to-date Psych hand book or one that has been made to work well with Kindles, tablets etc.

I use it almost every day, fits into coat pocket, print is quite small, have to strain your eyes to read. Contains very useful,practical information, everything is very well organized, succinct, lots of useful tables, really does what it's claims and is supposed to do, therefore 5 stars. A little larger print probably would not increase book thickness that much for the (hopefully) next edition?

Great to use while on the patient unit

Great to use while on the patient unit, even though it still uses the DSM IV TR, it's really beneficial and helps learn the basics. Would recommend this book along with kaplan and saddock. If they ever come out with a new edition, I would totally snap it up.

Chomsky matters. So does the Amazon/Audible choice of narrators. They blew that one.

It's not fair of me to knock the importance of Chomsky but that's what averaging reviews will do. The fact it this review is simply that the work was compiled and presented in such a profoundly dry and clinical manner that it was almost unbearable to a non-linguist. Really this is me calling out Audible/Amazon for picking someone more boring than Ben Stein to read the audiobook. I literally used it to fall asleep at night.

Good overview of Chomsky's work

This is a collection of some of Chomsky's most influential essays and articles, covering a wide range of topics from the role of intellectuals in the US, US foreign policy, Israel/Palestine, Anarchism, social movements, and a sampling of his linguistics work. Chomsky is one of the most profound and insightful social critics of our time, and this is a decent overview of his work.

Since some of the essays are excerpts of chapters in his various books, some readers familiar with Chomsky may find it repetitive. For someone completely new to Chomsky, I would recommend "Understanding Power" as a much more comprehensive, readable place to start.

Too Much Politics and Not Enough Linguistics

Mr. Chomsky is brilliant, blindingly articulate, and deserves an immense amount of attention and respect,
but for my money any volume entitled Essential Chomsky should strike a much more even balance between his linguistic work and political work.

I do not feel that this book is sufficiently representative of the likelihood that the evolution of language in primates, the impact of language on the social strucures of Homo Sapiens, and the monkey politics of our present day American condition are essentially all 'of a piece' in this great intellect.

That's my opinion, anyway...

Fantastic summary of the race car driving "essentials"

Carroll Smith outlines all the skills and attributes that it takes to be a first class driver. There are sections on race craft, fitness both mental and physical, chassis tuning, tire selection, data acquisition, and general tuning concepts. A well-written and informative book for the race car driver both experienced and novice. Unlike some of the other books that I have read in this category, it was entertaining and informative as opposed to the "text book" style that seems to be so common!

A perfect addition to Mr. Smith's line of books is "Drive to Win". If you wish to improve your skills as a hobbyist or professional then read this book. The book is slightly slanted to the race driver who wishes to enter the professional ranks, but is very informative for the non-professional as well.

A book for who wants to become a RACEDRIVER

I have read 3 books about racecar driving recently, they are 1. Speed secret 2. Think to win 3. Drive to win. In these books, "Speed secret" is the most simple one like a introduction of racing drive; "Think to win" is a little more complex, let you know how thinking leads to win; "Drive to win" let you understand more way to analysis driving. It contains almost everything what a professional racedriver must know. If you want to master in driving, must read it. My suggestion is to buy another book about this topic and compare two opinions-you will find which old tale is wong (or you can say, not complete).

No one has ever come home from the Feechiefen Swamp. What makes Aidan think he can?

It looks like a fool's errand. A jealous and vindictive King Darrow sends Aidan Errolson on a seemingly impossible quest into the depths of the Feechiefen Swamp. Darrow thinks he's sending Corenwald's young deliverer to certain death. No one, after all, comes back from the Feechiefen. He doesn't know that Aidan has friends and allies among the feechiefolk, who know him as the hero Pantherbane.

But even the feechiefolk may not be able to deliver Aidan from the enemy who waits in the swamp's deepest recesses an enemy who threatens not just Aidan, but all of Corenwald.

About the Author

Jonathan Rogers holds a Ph.D. in seventeenth-century British literature from Vanderbilt University where he also taught English for five years. He lives with his wife and their six children in Nashville, Tennessee.

he done it agin!

Once again Jonathan Rogers has given us a lively romp--a "please-one-more-chapter-even-though-it's-two-o'clock-in-the-morning" romp. My husband even had to turn off the TV and come listen to the story when he heard the feechiefolk talking. We all love those he-feechies, she-feechies, and wee-feechies. (They can't help it that they stink. You'd stink, too, if'n you lived in a swamp.)

I can't agree with those who have posted ahead of me, saying the second book is better than the first. The joy of our first meeting with good and loyal Aidan and the . . . um . . . surprising and endearing Dobro would be pretty hard to top. The second book is surely no let down, though. It is simply the continuing story of two kids we came to adore in the last book. They are still as loveable as ever. Still loyal and good and true. Still getting into and out of scrapes in hilarious ways, and all the while reminding us, by how they live, that God is merciful and serving him is a reward unto itself.

This book had the same laugh-out-loud moments as the first but this one, I think, had more sad moments than The Bark of the Bog Owl. Aidan is growing up and facing the world as it is and not as he hoped it would be. It is heartbreaking at times and yet there is beauty in Aidan's strength and in his resolve to do the right thing . . . for the feechies, for his father, and for his king. He is truly a hero.

Masterful work, Mr. Rogers, hurry with the next one.

This series is enthralling for my 10 year old daughter (who reads at a 8th grade level). It has adventure, danger, excitement and folklore to capture and maintain interest.

Book two of the Wilderking Trilogy opens with Aiden Errolson serving in the court of King Darrow of Corenwald. Actually, it opens with Aiden and Darrow's son Steren hunting a wild boar, but Aiden is, in fact, at court. Aiden is loved by everyone at court -- everyone except Darrow.

Darrow is tired of hearing about how heroic Aiden is. About how he defeated the giant Golia -- I mean Greidawl, and helped drive the Pyrthan invaders out of Corenwald. He's threatened -- he thinks Aiden is after the throne.

So he sends Aiden on a quest, to prove his loyalty. Aiden is sent to retrieve a legendary flower that is said to have the ability to cure the King's depression. But the flower is located in the heart of the Feechiefen Swamp -- and nobody who has ever entered the swamp has come out again.

Aiden isn't worried -- he has the friendship of the feechies, and the mark to prove it. But as he progresses, he grows more and more worried. There's something wrong in the Feechiefen Swamp -- there are feechies who pay no attention to the feechie laws, and who use metal weapons. And there's a new king in the swamps.

The Wilderking.

I enjoyed this book even more than the first one. For one thing, it's less derivative than the first book, even though the close friendship between Aiden and Steren was predictable, as was Darrow's depression and hatred of Aiden. But the focus of this book is on the feechies -- which should please Rogers' fans.

The feechies really make this series. Their simplicity, their sense of honor, and their commitment to their values illustrate everything that is wrong with civilizer society. And they're really funny to read -- especially out loud.

This series is high on my must-read list. I've got to make sure I get a copy of Book 3 (Amazon says it should be out in May of this year) so I can find out how this ends.

The psychiatric complaint of neurasthenia, or nervous exhaustion, was epidemic, and German scientists in the early 1900s sought a vaccine to cure fatigue. Terrific Analysis of Labor and Fatigue

Provides a detailed historical perspective with documentation, of western Europe's fixation with the study of fatigue, productivity. For work physiologists, this is a must read as it provides the foundational basis for present day laboratory procedures and research directions.

Good amount of historical human thermodynamic trivia.

The book is similar in theme and content to Mirowski's 1989 More Heat than Light (albeit less technically rigorous), containing interesting trivia tidbits, e.g. that German mathematician Carl Neumann, the first to introduce the d-hat derivative symbol for inexact differentials (1875), had views on how economic life related to energetic components of energy exchanges between people.
