About the Author
Susan Hallsten McGarry earned her master's degree in art history from the University of Minnesota and was editor-in-chief of Southwest Art magazine from 1979 to 1997. �She has authored more than 25 monographs, survey books, and catalogues on American artists and contributed to many more. Living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she is director of the national painting group Plein-Air Painters of America and is active in the local art community, including ARTsmart, a nonprofit that funds art materials, programs, and scholarships for the youth of northern New Mexico.

Absolutely one of the finest art books you will ever see. Great reproductions, and a wonderful retrospective of Hook's career. This is an artist who is not afraid to take chances and masters risky paintings. His choice of brilliant color combined with technical expertise showcase his talent.

Must have for art lovers!

Gorgeous book! And, totally different than your average art book. Beautifully written, this book explores Hook's art career and his familial ties to Willa Cather, but, it doesn't over work the story or get bogged down with too much information. It's really more about the artwork itself.

FYI - my book arrived slightly damaged, Amazon doesn't do the greatest packing job.

I can't write enough superlatives about the amazing, gorgeous art Hook produces. The book itself is quite handsome and large and the art reproductions are superb. I gasped in astonished admiration almost every time I turned a page. As soon as I finished I immediately read it all over again. And again. This is a must-have book for both artists and collectors!

Great book, great resource.

I had owned a previous edition of this book (the 2nd edition) and found this edition to be greatly improved on an already great book.
I appreciate the detail the book gives and as I stated is a great resource.
This book is not for the average "lay" person but for the medical professional, it works extremely well and again, does a great job with the detail. I've worked in the ICU for 24 yrs now and this is by far the best ICU resource out there.

Great reference book

Please keep in mind that I am a newer grad and have been working in the ICU for just over 9 months. This is a really great book with A LOT of wonderful information. It goes in depth and with that being said some chapters take me longer to read and really understand (having to look up word and processes I forgot or are unfamiliar with) than others. Most of the time it has adequate information in whatever I want to look up, last time it was hypothermia after cardiac arrest. Also, I have seen a couple resident docs carry around this book as well and other nurses have said it's a great book too. The couple chapters I have read have already taught me a whole hell of a lot.

A book to read in your copious free time.

The e-book also works on Android now! The Android Inkling app is pretty spiffy, makes the book easy to navigate!

This book has been an old friend and a light in a dark, scary, and often confusing place. Glad to have my own copy now! It works best when you read it and not just sit it on the shelf. This is actually the sort of book that is enjoyable to read, despite it being about a topic that intimidates.

They do their best to make it accessible

If nothing else, this book recognizes that those who are in the social sciences may have had difficult experiences with statistics in the past that focused purely on the formulas. This book can't make stats 'easy', but it does its best to make it understandable - breaking down the reasoning behind each formulaic move so that you can truly understand the meaning behind the numbers. If you have an option of taking a stats class with this book as opposed to a straight stats for beginners, I'd recommend this one any day.

I'd like to say that first off, I can't stand that the majority of the reviews here are about the delivery of this POS textbook. This is not Ebay!

What is inside the book is what counts and this book for me is an absolute nightmare. I have never taken a statistics class before and being an online student with no time and no access to tutors is an absolute disaster. This book is of no use to a person who is not previously familiar to statistics. It provides no effective examples of the problems for a person to effectively reverse engineer. If you have this book for an online class, you should seek a different means to learn statistics. This book was written with an assumption that you will retain 92% of what you read every week. I'm paying about $1100 for this class and I want a refund for the book!

A dreadful little book. It starts out well, but beyond the first few pages, I felt it was horrid. Admittedly, I'm not a math person, but even so, this was a tough one to wade through. I'm glad I only rented it and that it's out of my hands, never to be picked up again.
